Lots of positive feedback from tonight's meeting. A big thanks to Sully and the Southern Nevada Mountain Bike Assoc. for allowing me to speak. It looks like a go for two teams this fall! Anyone else want to start a team? ;)

Day one of the NICA Leaders' Summit, I drank from the fire hose of knowledge.  The classes I attended where those little details you can't imagine or predict from just intellect...it takes experience and I'm grateful that these folks are sharing what has worked or failed.  Let us not recreate the wheel.
Classes attended included:  Engaging & Coaching Adolescents, Concussions (yep, head injuries), Bike Fitting (wow I had no idea), and Creating Holistic Training Programs.
My brain is on overload...tomorrow Ride Skills Clinic!!!

If you missed last nights webinar, the same class is being offered tonight by a different instructor.  I would encourage you to register for this one webinar over any other.  This webinar covers the basics of starting a high school mountain bike team.  It gives some foundational principals to create a successful youth centered environment and will help you avoid some pitfalls in the first year.  www.nationalmtb.org/nica-webinars/

Registered for the Leaders' Summit!

Well it's official, I'm now registered for the Utah High School Cycling League's - Leaders' Summit at the end of April. I'll go and "rough it" at Utah's Olympic Village for a few days. I'll possess that "Head Coaches License" I've spoken about to many of the followers.
Then I'm thinking of a stop at Gooseberry Mesa on the way back, I've been meaning to ride a section called "God's Skate Park". Then I'll be bringing back some great information from this summit. So I can't wait to see many others get to go to a conference like this one; get involved and remain involved! Stay tuned, more to come!

To future sucess and partnerships!

Over the last two days my family and I have visited and spoke with bike shop owners all over the Las Vegas Valley.  I am so impressed with the vision and outreach work that is being done.  I know that with their hard work the future of Las Vegas cycling is in great hands.  Please go out and support our local shops.  There are quite a few upcoming bicycle demo days, what better way to find out if you are going to love a new bike than to give the bike a test ride!

March 10th from 9a.m. - 2p.m. - Las Vegas Cyclery hosts a Specialized demo day at: 3650 S. Town Center Dr. Las Vegas, NV (they will be building a new shop here too!)

Introduction

This blog has been created to help spread the word, educate and begin the development process for a High School Mountain Bike Program in Nevada.  I will keep this blog site up to date with the latest information about things like: Teams that are developing and their results from races, New Sponsors (we need them!), and Key events. I also would like to see communication on who would like to get involved and I welcome questions on how to get involved and the team standup process.

This is going to take a couple of years and some hard working volunteers and sponsors to launch a successful program here in Nevada, but our Nevada Youth deserve something great.

My name is Chris and for more information on the process or other question you can also e-mail or call me:
